And at The Cannanore Shop we love the fact that we work with artisans and craftsmen and we are able to perhaps bring a small smile to their faces. We strongly believe in the maxim that a smile goes a long way in life. And let us assure you that it is easier to forgive that to carry the weight of anger, fear and envy within you. 

However, sometimes we tend to forget how to smile, to forgive and be thankful for what we have. We instead hanker after more and more and more.........

This series of products that we have brought to The Cannanore Shop is just to bring in an affirmation of how we ought to look at the world around us. 

Think right, take a moment at a time and pause to think what we have within us and around us and why we should be eternally grateful for what we have. 

So here we have the Wisdom Bell which merely carries a humble intention to make these moments pleasing by nurturing pleasant thoughts. Just simple reminders to circle back and sit down and look forward with positivity. 

Because sometimes we just forget. 

So remember to be thankful, to be Forgiving, to have innate Gratitude and most importantly Smile. Just a glance at this hand crafted copper bell with a very smart rope and the cutest little birdie hanging from it should be enough to make you break into a smile. And pass on the smile!

Wisdom Bell

The Gajalakshmi Vilakku (lamp) is a traditional lamp handcrafted using solid brass in Kerala by families that have been crafting this beautiful lamp for generations. The lamp comes in different sizes and designs. The lamp typically has the Goddess Lakshmi or Bhagavathi flanked on either side by elephants and delicate work all around. It comes with a chain link and a strong hook attached to enable you to hang it. 
The Gajalakshmi Lamp can be used in your prayer space. However it can be the cynosure of all eyes if you place it at the entrance of your home or in your living room or any special corner. 
The lamp is crafted using the wax  mould and dye casting method and involves tedious work to get the final piece ready. 

Weight - 5 kg approximately (including chain)

Care - Keep it shiny using a Brass metal polishing liquid or tamarind paste as was used traditionally. Or else wipe with a dry soft cloth and let it take on an antique finish look

A unique combination of Zinc and Copper put together using a centuries old craft gives it this very classy black colour. And added to this is very fine embellishment in pure silver which is inlaid into the metal and what you get is a very precious piece of art work that takes days to make a single piece. Worth the effort when you place it in your home and get compliments for it too! It makes for a great gift as well

One of these beautiful elephants and a couple of planters with your favourite plant under a lamp will complete the look worthy of an interior magazine. Go get your imagination working.

Bowl - Bidriware

The Nettoor petti was used by women in aristocratic homes and also in temples to store the jewelry of the idols. 
The craftsman VV Suresh is a highly awarded person who is probably one of the few left in kerala. He comes from a family of craftsmen who made these exquisite boxes. 
The wood used ranges from teak, mahogany, rose wood to jackfruit. Every part of this box is hand crafted including the intricate painting and the brass embellishments.

Blue Sun-Catcher Birdie

Baskets and planters are among the most versatile inclusions for a home. Pop a plant into it and place it anywhere to bring in a splash of colour or perhaps an earthy feel to the room. Use it to store magazines, use it to store knick knacks or use it to store things like socks by the shoe cabinet or snacks in the TV room or perhaps your kids favourite toys, the uses are endless. This basket from The Cannanore Shop is made by a woman living in a tent by the roadside. Selling these give her and her 4 children their meal for the day. She makes them deftly and has an eye for colour. They are not made of a natural fibre but the fact that it is handmade finds its way into the store! Place a single piece or a cluster in similar colours and watch the decor take on a drool-worthy look!
